Day 2
High Falls - Opalascent - Bringham - Barron River
More
portaging this day ranging from ranging from 100 - 750. Johns brand new
sandals were done after the 1st portage and he struggled to piece them back
together all trip long as the Velcro wouldn't hold. Luckily Bert had some
shock cord available and we were able to rig something up. Portages today
were good , no too long but not too boring and easy either. Park is really
busy, never seen so many
women or children. 100P was almost manageable only having to walk to the
very end with gear still on. Stopped at the 440 for a snack and drink.
Ran into a group from Windsor and man did we ever look organized. These
groups took forever to unload their canoes then they has stuff everywhere.
As soon as we could we landed and were past them on trail before they were even
ready to begin. Breakfast this morning was sausage, pancakes, coffee and
lunch was pita cheese and summer sausage. Out to the Baron River it is
beautiful!!! Amazing views, from the bottom to go along with the top.
Stopped seeing people and figured we might not see many
more. Took first site after the canyon on a point where the river
narrows., site was ok but not great. No table like last night. Was
really windy and cold this day but really hot when the wind went away. We
all read all afternoon and were amazed at how many people canoed right through
the narrow where we were. Though really shouldn't be surprised as it is
the baron canyon. Took a swim and cleaned up.
Another
chipmunk followed us around all day. Saw a Ranger, first time ever putting
a new thunder box. Supper tonight was Tom Collins, soup, Sierra Chicken,
and Raspberry Cobbler. Went fishing that evening and caught a lot of bass,
some were a good size too. With the first 3-5 casts we were
each bringing in 3-5 pounders. Moe was lucky enough to get caught up in a
tree with his line and while trying to get free he lost another lure. Had
a fire that night then it turned pretty cold so we called it a night.
