Day 1
Grand - Stratton - High Falls - Opalascent - Bringham - Barron River
Thursday July 20th
Ted was unable to come with us this year so we were lucky
enough to have John Taite join us. We were up at 4:45 and headed out to
pick up John. His new girlfriend was up and there to meet us as well.
Stopped at the Irving station for breakfast and headed for the park stopping
first to grab canoes just inside the park gate. We've used this
outfitter before and they're always good. Though Moe and I had been to the
Baron Canyon before see Cork Lake Disaster
Bert and John had not so we had to make sure we made a stop at the Barron
Canyon Trail.
At Achray by 10:30 and into the canoe's by 11:00.
Warm day and no wind, nice and calm. Stopped at the high falls play area
for a swim and a slide which is always fun. Met a couple from England and
another from Germany. Had lunch at high falls then
back
into the canoes and headed for high falls lake. Only 1 real portage today,
550P High falls site not really great but serviceable. Setup camp
and read while John and Moe took a nap. Kept looking like rain but only
rained lightly. Supper was great as always, Tom Collins, Rice, Pepper
Steak, Soup and Coffee with Baileys. Had a fire read, chatted and found a
chipmunk in Bert's trail mix bag. Also were lucky enough to see a gardener
snake. Rain picked up then continued hard all freekin night!!!!
