Day 3
Laurel Lake
Saturday July 22nd
0 Portage = 0 KM
Well, we were up early again but not because we were going
anywhere just because...
I awoke to a sore foot and after looking at it, it seemed a
bit swollen; maybe there was an infection of something from yesterday's leech
incident.
We did a bit of fishing and Ted was lucky enough to catch a
small bass. As usual I did not have much luck. Ted and I then
ventured over near the falls at the portage to Cauchon Lake. Its amazing
how quickly things can happen when you're not paying too much attention.
I'm still not sure what exactly happened
but in about two seconds Ted and I had flipped the canoe and it was completely submerged
in the water. Luckily the water was only about 3 feet deep and we were
able to stand up and pull it out. Ted's camera seemed to no longer work
after we pulled it from the water but that really wasn't much of a
surprise.
This day really was a lot of fun; we had a diving rock off
our campsite that allowed us to jump in and swim around a bit. I felt like
I was 10 years old again just jumping in and splashing around the way kids
normally do.
Later that night we had a fire again and played guitar. It was a beautiful
night and a perfect day spent in Algonquin Park.
