TUNA CAN EXPRESS
      Day 4

Dickson, Bonfield, Wright, Opeongo

As is with every year, last day is a day of business, and with a daunting 5305P up first this day was no different.  We also weren't sure how long the portage would take us and we had to make sure we were at out water taxi pick up on time.  We were up at 5:10 and quickly got to work.  We had our regular breakfast minus the baileys in the coffee, took down camp and headed out.

We were all jacked up for this portage and managed to complete it in 1 hour 40 minutes.  Each team actually switched the canoe 5 times giving us a total of ten carries to complete.  In hindsight it really wasn't that bad, not the "Hell" we thought it would be.

A short portage and paddle of Wright lake had us at our water taxi pickup in 2 hours and 40 minutes at 9:30, yet out pickup time wasn't until 11:00.  We actually just missed the taxi as it had a scheduled stop at 9:30, and we found out that he actually showed up early.  Oh well, it didn't really matter, just some more relaxing time in the park.

While waiting for the next taxi we met a church group from Virginia, about 12 teenagers, it appeared as though 1 or 2 of them were experienced and the others were absolutely not.  The leaders were giving lessons on how to carry the canoe, and making sure everyone's pack was properly secured.

We ate again around 10:00, not that we were really hungry, but we had some food left over and wanted a tea anyway.  It was pita bread with peanut butter and the last of the trail mix.

Second Breakfast

Taxi arrives

11:00 and the water taxi arrives, it was 25 minutes to Opeongo access point.  When we got back we packed everything into the cars and headed for the showers.  When I arrived I checked the first three doors and all were locked, obviously someone was in them.  The fourth door was open and as I stepped inside my jaw dropped, there stood a woman completely naked shaving her legs.  I was so embarrassed, and I sure she was too.  They have locks on the doors for a reason, but it happens!!  I guess I too was a bit frazzled as after I showered I realized I never locked the door either.  But it sure made for one hell of a good laugh.

One final shot of TCE 2005

12:05 and because Bert and I were heading to Toronto, while Ted and Moe were heading to Ottawa, we said our goodbyes and hit the highway.  Yet another canoe trip has come and gone way too soon, and so the planning begins for TCE 2006.
