Day 3
Lake Lavieille, Hardy Bay, Dickson Lake
We woke up a little later this morning, probably a combination of a long day two
and becoming more comfortable in our surroundings. A strange thing
occurred in Ted's tent, I guess he was in a half sleep half awake state and
though that Moe's knees, (which were sticking out) was his daughter and was
talking to them, telling them it was time for bed. It sure made for a good
laugh in the morning.

We had a short day today, just an early morning paddle, a 90P and then another
short easy paddle on Dickson. We were targeting an island site and when we
arrived at 10:35 it was empty; although there was a chair and a pair of shoes by
the fire pit.
This was easily our best day; we were all setup at camp by 11:00 and it was a
hot beautiful day. Our site was large, lots of flat area's for tents, and
had a really
nice and large sandy beach. Bert even found a really good spot where he
could get away from us for a bit and just read in the peace and quiet. On
the beach was a fallen tree that ventured out into the water; it must have been
there for a while because it was all smoothed over, perfect for sitting on and
playing our guitars, which is what we did. Ted sat in the red chair and
wrote in his journal. Ted is pretty
good at keeping a journal and thankfully so, as I am terrible. I think each
of us took a nap this day; it was just so relaxing, so much so that we decided
we would shorten next years trip to allow for more down time. We just hung
out like this from about 11:00-6:00 when we finally decided to get supper going.
Another great meal, each night we start things off with a cocktail, usually
vodka and Tom Collins mix, followed by soup, a main course and a dessert.
We had a few cigars but not enough for each night, next year a cigar
after every dinner will be a must.

Ted relaxing on the beach
After dinner we just hung out again, playing guitar and discussing the trip that
was about to begin. It was an odd year this year as Brandon did not come
with us. Brandon always added a certain element to our adventures each
year that only Brandon could and it was obvious from the amount times we spoke
of Brandon that we all missed him.
Tried our luck at fishing again, as usual Ted caught one, a small perch, but Moe
and I had nothing.

The years big catch
The one big thing about this year's trip was the portage on the last day,
Dickson to Bonfield 5305P. To date the largest portage we ever encountered
was 2800P. As we sat around the fire this night we were all wondering what
it was going to be like. As usual we also started to look forward to
getting home.
I taught Ted some chords on the guitar and we were all quite surprised at how
easily he started spitting out some cool lyrics, and the fact that he could
really sing.
