Day 2
North Depot - Radiant
Morning came early but we were eager to get going. Island Site North
Depot Lake.

After some breakfast and coffee, all packed up and ready for another day.

We headed to the south end of North Depot Lake and faced our longest
portage of the trip 770 meters, (hey we're beginners!). Ted here show's us
how it's done. Meanwhile Brandon and Moe are really struggling with
TCE. You see, not only did it not have any seats but it also didn't have a
yolk to balance across your shoulders so carrying it was worse than riding in
it.

At the end of the
portage we found this nice swimming hole to take a quick dip, and yes it was
cold!!!

Ted and Brandon posing for a shot.

Probably
the best picture taken on the trip. I had a hard time balancing the camera
and I actually dropped it. Good thing it stuck in some rocks, it
was brand new.

My
Favorite part of the trip the North River, very winding and scenic. TCE
looks like
it's
a little low!

OOOOPS, stuck on a dam, way to go Moe.

Yet
another portage this time it's Moe. Looks like Brandon and Ted might have
finally figured out a
way
to carry TCE. Actually it was just one of many attempts to find a better
way.

As
we finally got to Radiant Lake I knew exactly which site I wanted. Unfortunately
it was on the other side of the lake and as you can see the wind was
really picking up. It just so happens that we were right at the
dock of a cabin and the owners were also out trying to paddle the lake. We
spotted them heading for shore as they had decided to get out and walk.
Just as we pulled over, he came up and said, "You guys look like you could
use a beer, come on up." Well I don't think the guys could have
jumped any faster. Turns out the owner (can't remember his name) is from
Baltimore and the cabin has been in his family for decades. We had our
beer and nachos then back into the canoes to cross to our final stop.
